Andy Ruiz digital portrait

Andy Ruiz

Hello everyone, thanks for reading our blog.

In this blog I would like to talk about what I’ve been up to artistically.

I love digital art, it’s very practical and it saves me a lot of time.

I have been watching a lot of boxing lately, and I’m exited about the heavy weight division at the moment.

One of my latest favourite fights, was Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz.

Anthony Joshua, is a very well stabilised British boxer. Very well built body wise, he had a record of no loos, and everyone thought he was gonna get through Andy Ruiz in a very easy win.

Comparing both boxers, body wise, Joshua looked a lot fitter and a lot more prepare than Andy Ruiz. Andy Ruiz looked like he wasn’t prepared physically for this fight.

So long story short, a lot of people under estimated Andy Ruiz, including Anthony Joshua. No one thought Andy Ruiz would be able to go past Joshua, due to his physique.

Andy Ruiz surprised everyone, knocking Anthony Joshua 3 times on the floor. What an amazing fight. No one thought a Chubby Mexican guy would pull out, one of the biggest upset in history of boxing.

With this story I have learned anything is possible. Andy Ruiz believed in himself and pulled it out. When everyone was against him and doubting what he could do. He only had his beliefs and his ability, and he managed to prove everybody wrong.

I can’t wait for the re-match, I think both fighters are more than capable to win,

It could go either way, and I will be definitely watching this re-match.

Andy Ruiz was the first Mexican heavy weight champion of the world, so congratulations to him. Believing in yourself, dream big, anything is possible.

Geisha with Dragon, Sketch of the day, by Louis Santos

Japanese Sketch of the day

I love sketching, it’s the beginning and foundation of an idea, which it could turn in to many things.

When I sketch I try not too worry too much in the beginning, as ideas is far more important than proportions in the beginning.

It’s good to loose my mind and have fun, so ideas start to pop and naturally appear on paper.

As an artist, everyday I wake up and be grateful for still being here, I see it as an opportunity to express myself personally and artistically.

As human beings we are very expressive, and the ones who don’t manage to express themselves personally, vocally, artistically or however you choose to express yourself. Will lack on personal fulfilment.

This Sketch will be part of my book coming out hopefully. I’m doing all my drawings for my book on A3. This sketch is A4, so I’m not sure how it will fit yet. However, as soon as I’m expressing myself, I believe that’s the most important thing.

Wiz Khalifa digital art work in progress by Louis Santos

Digital Portrait of Wiz Khalifa

Hello everyone, thanks for reading our blog. It’s a good way to get to know what’s been going on behind the scenes at our studio in Leeds City Centre.

As I love my art, 2 styles that always comes to my mind when I consider drawing or painting is fantasy and realism. So portrait is one of my favourite styles of realism to tattoo and draw.

We play a lot of hip-hop in the studio, is a kind of music kind of chilled to work to.

Actually Joe got my in to hip-hop. I was more of a rocker before getting in to hip-hop.

So listening to a lot of hip-hop since working with Joe. I have got to like artists like 2pac, Snoop Dogg, People under the stairs and Wizz Khalifa.

So that’s where it comes the idea for this portrait. Digital painting is the best way I like to approach, to painting or drawing a portrait. It’s very practical, with no drying time.

Tattooing or drawing a portrait, is really fun for me. Sometimes the choice is mine to draw or paint a portrait I feel like I want to paint. Or to try to translate on my clients skin who needs a tattoo portrait of an important person in their life.

Portrait Tattoo drawing studies

Portrait realism studies.
I’ve always been passionate about tattooing and drawing portraits.
In my opinion, drawing a face is the most fun part of the body to draw. I love tattooing and drawing old faces, as the texture is so vivid. Old people have a lot of story to tell in their faces.
Tattooing a portrait is probably the hardest subject to tattoo. That’s why I like to work on paper, before I attempt the skin.
I have had seminar on portraits by Nikki Hurtado. And I have had online portrait classes, which it divides each section of the human face, and study each part of the face, step by step. That was a very important and perhaps most enjoyable online class I have ever had.
Portraits are very welcome at Familia Tattoo. I’m definitely passionate about it, and will carry on to draw, paint and tattoo portraits.

Geisha Japanese tattoo by Louis Santos

I did this Geisha and hanya mask Japanese tattoo in Ibiza. I visit Matthew, who is from Leeds, we have a good time relaxing and tattooing.

Zombie sleeve work in progress

Today, I had an epic day. Thanks to Max, for giving me the opportunity to do this Zombie sleeve for him.

It’s really fun for me to do a Zombie sleeve, and I’m sure to make the most of this opportunity, to give the best I can to Max.

The best part of doing a Zombie sleeve in my opinion is the freedom I have to express myself. As the subject is crazy, I can just go crazy and everything will be fine.
Working on this devil, I have made sure to get my dark areas in the background to give a morbid mood. Textures in the foreground, but only working on my mid tones in the foreground, controlling my dark in the foreground.

Zombies and devils are very textured creatures. And I love doing textures. It’s fun to keep finding the in and out textures, following the shape of the the subject.
I would like to thanks Max, for this opportunity. And it’s a bonus he’s a really nice and chilled guy, so I’m very happy working with him.
Sometimes I could say I’m blessed to do what I love, and work with really nice people, it just makes the day seem effortless.

Japanese Dragon Tattoo Leeds

Hello everyone, thanks for looking at our blog. I am now taking a look back, at some Japanese work i have done in the past, and having some memories of my Japanese Tattoos i have done, over my time i have been tattooing in Leeds.

Dragons are really good for cover-ups, its a beast with many textures and scales, so that for a cover-up is a very sensible option.

I remember to have done this dragon all free hand. I feel comfortable free handing dragons straight on skin, as i have drawn them many times before. Free handing, also gives a opportunity to get a better flow of the human body.

Every time i draw a dragon, i think like a crocodile face, that helps me to follow the shape and structure of the dragons face.

I learned to draw Japanese tattoos, just for the fact of being in a tattoo studio, you always gonna get asked for it. And i am also passionate about the style. I am gonna draw some new Japanese Tattoo ideas.

My ideas always gonna have a fantasy twist to it, as i like to push the boundaries a bit further, and brake the rules a little bit.

Thanks for reading our blog, until next time

Japanese Tattoo Realistic

I love drawing a style before i tattoo it. Being an art focused tattooist outside of the tattooing craft, it gives me the opportunity to develop knowledge, and push the boundaries, learning lessons, before going about the subject on skin.

I have been drawing Japanese tattoos since the beginning of my career, i am a big fan of Shige. He is a tattoo artist from Japan, who completely broke the rules of Japanese tattoos. Japanese tattoos were very traditional, every one used to stick to the rules. And Shige came along and changed all that, making Japanese tattoos more realistic.

So i like to bring a bit of realism when i approach a Japanese tattoo and drawing.

I have been tattooing Japanese tattoos in Leeds for the past 10 years, i will upload new ans past Japanese tattoos i have done over my career of 13 years.

I love drawing and tattooing Japanese Geisha, they look calm and graceful.

Japanese Tattoos have an amazing way of flowing in the body like no other style does.

Thank you for reading, until our next blog,

Consultation time by Louis

Consultation time by Louis

Thanks for reading our blog, familia tattoo blog is a way to follow what’s been going on behind the scene in our studio and our lives.

Max emailed me about a cover-up on his arm. He’s from Scotland and has been living in Leeds for a few years now.

He mentioned he was looking for a tattoo studio in Leeds. I’m glad and grateful he choose us to work on his cover-up, as i enjoy doing cover-up tattoos.

Every consultation, I use my iPad Pro. I take a picture of the clients part of the body, in this case Max wanted to get his half sleeve tattoo covered.

I get all the ideas my customer have, ask them to send it over to me. And do a photo mix on photoshop, so they have a taste of how their tattoo could look like.

This process, allows the client to come out of the consultation with something to look at. Making it worth coming to see me, and exiting the customer about what’s about to happen.

Kind Regards

Tonight we become children of Thanos

0DAFFF8A-04F9-4B5F-A7DA-5D914E15123D

I’m very happy and grateful to be tattooing in my opinion the most fierce and feared comic villain of all time “Thanos”

After watching Avengers “infinity wars” I was fascinated by the movie, I went to the cinema 5X to watch it, if you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it, it’s not just a comic movie, it’s a piece of art itself. It’s known that Disney spent, around 320 millions dollars on it, and when you watch you will feel where all this money went to.

In this movie “Thanos” is a villain who wants to get hold of 6 stones, which each stone gives him more control of life itself and it will make him such a god, being able to control anything.

In his opinion the way to save the world is to get rid of the over population, and sacrifice billions of lives for what he believes to be called, salvation, and mercy. He believes the only way to find piece is to sacrifice other lives.

It’s a very brutal way to solve any problem, however he sticks to his believes and fights under any cost or circumstance, to achieve his mission. Everyone believes he’s a mad man, and tries to stop his mission with their dying breath.

As much as “Thanos” is a mad man, watching that movie over and over again, I noticed a lot of positive quotes he came out with, and made me think a lot.

I noticed, during all the movie, every time something bad happens, he says something positive over it.

After his daughter tries to killing him, he has the power to come back to life as he has total control of reality, with the reality stone. And when he comes back he says to his daughter “I know deep down you still care” after she deliberately attempted to kill him.

Towards the end of the movie. When Thanos is after the last stone. The stone is trying to be destroyed, to avoid Thanos getting hold of it, and complete his purpose. As the stone is destroyed, he calmly says… “I understand more than anyone my child, but now it’s no time to mourn” he understands why she broke the stone, however he wastes no time and reverses time, and collects the stone.

In my opinion, that’s a really good lesson we can relate to life, as something doesn’t go the way we want, it’s better to have a positive perception of it, don’t cry over spilled milk, having no time to mourn, and carrying on with your mission.

The quicker you get over the spilled milk, the faster you will be from accomplishing your mission. And having no time to mourn, it makes you appreciate how valuable time is, and every second is a valuable time to be doing what you believe.

When the milk spills, I like to wipe it and forget about it. And look forward to all the beautiful meals life has to offer, instead of focusing on something that is not gonna give any more fruit.

Another awesome quote I heard “Thanos” state in the movie, which is probably my favourite one. Is when he’s talking to doctor strange toward the end, before they start fighting. Doctor strange is trying to convince him of how mad he’s, for trying to do what he believes. And “Thanos” says to him “the hardest choices, requires the strongest wills”

That’s another quote we can relate to our lives, if you have a hard choice that no one understand you, you have to be the strongest to make it happen, and not be uninspired by any other opinion outside yours.

As much as someone has their bad points, the also have good ones. So instead of looking at Thanos, like a crazy mad man, I try to take the best out of him, and learn with him, instead of hating him, like most people do.
